What is Foster Care?

Foster Care is a temporary arrangement of custody or guardianship for children whose parents are currently unable to provide them with necessary care.  It is a legal process which is currently regulated by the Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA), in Jamaica.

Our Foster Care Model

The FTC Foster Care Programme models the Nairn Family Homes Foster Care Programme, which is based on an attachment-focused philosophy of care and treatment. One of the main challenges that children face while being raised in institutions is that they don’t have any meaningful attachment to the persons around them. Attachment plays a significant role in the development of a child’s brain and skills such as reasoning, problem-solving and self-regulation.

The attachment model suggests 5 ways in which attachment is developed:

These parenting strategies allow children to develop trust and embrace their new family. This provides the basis for healing from emotional and psychological scars and settles them so that they can improve their academic performance.

Foster parents

Would you like to become a foster parent?

You could if you are:

  1. A married Christian couple, with or without children of your own and want to share with a child in need
  2. A single Christian female who desires to share in the ministry of childrearing
  3. A Christian whose children have grown out of the home and would like to raise more children
  4. A Christian who wants your time and resources by caring for a child

Children need families. If you are not a Christian and would like to foster a child you may visit the Child Protection and Family Services office and submit your application to them

*All foster care applicants must reside in Jamaica.

What People
Say About Us

When I saw his photo for the first time I said, “This is my son!” It is wonderful to know that I can make a life-changing impact on a child’s life. The journey takes patience, but when my son says, “Mummy, mi love you,” my heart just wants to burst

Rachel Davidson, Foster Parent

This is one of the best decisions that I have ever made! When you foster a child, you impact the next generation. You could be molding a future great contributor to society who would otherwise have become a burden to society. It is such a joy to watch my son transform from being shy, withdrawn child displaying so many symptoms of stress and trauma to becoming a happy, loving child. I decided to do this to bless him, but I am being so blessed in the process. This parenting journey has brought new joy to my life

Pamela Douglas, Foster Parent

At first I was hesitant about fostering our daughter. However, she has taught us so much and brought us so much joy. We would encourage anyone to foster a child as this is beneficial to both the children and parents
