Our Programmes
FTC Annual Conference Held During Child Month
- Most comprehensive foster care education event in Jamaica
- Promoted to foster care professionals, foster and kinship parents and foster children
- Covers almost every foster care-related topic imaginable
Summer Camps for Foster Children
The Summer camps are fun-filled, action-packed, self-esteem-promoting, faith-nurturing, memory-making experiences. Campers enjoy campfires, fishing, arts & crafts, nature walks, evening hikes, silly songs, wacky games and of course swimming.
The camps allow foster children to experience God’s love through a loving community. Members of the FTC camp staff ensure that every child receives the love and care that s/he deserve. Campers learn to live in community with others, to share, take responsibility and challenge themselves to engage in new experiences.
Monthly Foster Parent Workshops
- Monthly retreats for foster parents and families to develop the knowledge and skills required to raise children who are victims of trauma
- Cover important topics such as trauma-sensitive parenting, developing self-regulation skills, self-care for foster parents, among others.
Regular Fun-filled Activities for Foster Children
- Develop confidence, creativity and innate passions
- Through various play modalities, address issues that foster children may be facing. The objective is to create a safe environment that will promote healing.
Mentorship Programme for Foster Children
Mentors help build the self-esteem and self-confidence of children by sharing in accomplishments and milestones. They also encourage the development of new interests, aspirations and skills.
A few hours per month can shape a child’s future. Youth who have at least one stable adult in their lives, such as a mentor, are less likely to choose a dangerous life path and are more likely to do well academically.
Volunteers with the FTC mentoring program are trained and matched with children and youth based on their personal interests and mentoring skills.
